Ford has recalled about 63,000 Maverick hybrid pickups from model years 2022 and 2023 because their instrument panel clusters may be unreadable in the dark.

Ford tells the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that instrument clusters in trucks produced on certain dates may not always illuminate when needed. The problem, Ford says, is software-related. Ford knows of no accidents but at least 165 warranty claims over the problem.

Dealers will fix it with a software update. But these trucks can’t receive the update remotely, so owners must bring them in for the download.

By law, dealers don’t charge for recall repairs.

Automakers recall many cars to fix safety defects, sometimes more than once. While automakers try to reach every owner to ask them to bring the vehicle in for repair, they rarely reach them all. Millions of vehicles on American roads need free recall repairs. Check the easy VIN tool at our recall center to find out if your car is one of them.
